Asia-Pacific Weeks

Bernd M. Scherer, Intendant of the House of World Cultures
Dr. Annette Hulek, Head / Cultural Programm Asia-Pacific Weeks

The Asia-Pacific Weeks have been held in Berlin every two years since 1997 on the initiative of the german capital’s Governing Mayor. As a strategic partner in this iniative and the leading venue for the presentation of contemporary art and culture in the global world  the House of World Cultures conceives and coordinates the cultural programme for the Asia-Pacific Weeks.

Following their focus on the countries Japan ( 1999), China ( 2001, India ( 2003), and Korea ( 2005), the 6th Asia-Pacific Weeks celebrate the tenth year of existance from 10 – 23 September 2007 with the focus: „Asia-Pacific: Changing the World“.

We are particularly happy to see the exhibition „Coming closer“ evolve from long and continual cooperation between a group of thai as well as  german artists. The art works bare traces of lively influences and multifaceted challenge, being the result of an open and respectfull aesthetic dialogue.
